Portrait of Past and Present

In a mood of nostalgia, I layer old maps, pages from old books, antique lace and fabric, and many other found objects from days gone by. I also include some of the many notes and technical drawings from my own sketchbooks and notebooks. While using acrylic paints and charcoal I invite rough markings, accidents, and drips to appear as welcomed guests. With transparent pigments and underpainting, I try to convey the complexity of time, identity and the human spirit. These visceral realizations honor our longing in our present for times past.
