Sandra Iafrate

About the artist
Sandra Iafrate is a multidisciplinary artist whose work explores place, memory, and material as carriers of lived experience. Working primarily in painting and mixed media, her practice combines traditional painterly foundations with layered surfaces that incorporate maps, textiles, and found elements. Through these accumulative processes, her work reflects an ongoing dialogue between observation and intuition, structure and disruption, and personal history and collective narratives.

Iafrate holds an MFA from the Savannah College of Art and Design and brings over 20 years of experience as both a studio artist and educator. She has conducted lectures and workshops in Canada, U.S. and Europe and has exhibited in juried and solo exhibitions including solo shows in Toronto and in the U.S. and international art fairs in Canada, Amsterdam and New York.

In addition to her studio practice, Iafrate has contributed to the field through curatorial work, academic teaching, and arts education initiatives. She is the founder of Gate St. Studio in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Canada, and served as a teaching assistant at SCAD and an assistant curator at the Art and Culture Center Hollywood. Her work has received recognition from institutions including the Government of Canada. Iafrate lives and works between Canada and the United States.
