Painting of Wreath
5"x7"
acrylic on wood
by Sandra Iafrate
I never like taking down Christmas decorations. Its Day 5 of the 30 and 30 challenge, but the real challenge is taking down the tree, ornaments, garland, etc. Both physically and emotionally, its a difficult task. But just before doing that I snapped a photo of my front door to paint the day's inspiration. | 6"x8"

Woke up to this scene this morning, #30 of my January daily painting. |

Gazebo by the Lake
5"x7"
acrylic on canvas
Inspired by my morning dog walk to the Lake. It is cold and rainy, and the trees are bare. Tough to paint without the sun light and cast shadows! The Gazebo was a prop which was left here after the filming of a Stephen Speilberg movie, "The Dead Zone" 25 years ago. It has since been restored and serves as a photo op spot for tourists and has been painted by artists many times. |

View of Niagara River
10"x16"
acrylic on canvas
At the base of Queeston Heights Park is a lookout point which usually gathers quite a few tourists who want to snap photos of this great river that flows from Lake Erie to Lake Ontario and divides the USA and Canada. Its the 'brown' season, no snow, no lush greenery and no tourists. But still a beautiful view. | Day 22

New Year Painting 2017
10x10
acrylic on wood
by Sandra Iafrate
To kick off the 30 in 30 challenge, I decided to paint Happy New Year 2017. This is the first time I painted fireworks and I found it interesting to try to capture the dramatic contrast of the light against the dark sky. I hope to theme the next paintings based on daily inspiration for the month of January. | Day 6
Tuscan Workshop Study
7"x10"

I was sorting through references for upcoming workshop and thought I would work on a small piece of canvas with my new Williamsburg hand-made oil paint today to capture the light of the landscape and cypress trees. | Day 3

Study of Albert Bierstadt's "Among the Sierra Nevada, California"
by Sandra Iafrate
While in Washington, DC this day, I was able to catch the last open hour of the National Gallery where I ran around and marveled at the art, snapping some photos. Of course Albert Bierstadt's work was displayed just as it would have been back in the 1800's with dramatic lighting and drawn velvet curtain. He was a dramatic painter with theatrical presentation. And to this I say, "ta-da!" |

Study of Franz Kline's Merce C_ Hanging in Gallery
10"x10"
acrylic on wood by Sandra Iafrate
At the National Gallery I couldn't help but notice the stark paintings of Franz Kline, one of the Abstract Impressionist of the 1940s and 50s. This work, "Merce C" was Kline's tribute to, choreographer Merce Cunningham. Its a huge painting along the hallways of the National Gallery. I was struck by the contrast of the historical gallery walls and Kline's painting. Can you see the dancers? | SOLD
