Summer solstice has arrived! So it's official: it's summer, and along with that, the season plays a big, bright role in art and inspiration. We can all be inspired by the changing seasons, so along with summer comes images of lakes, boats, birds, gardens, sunshine and sunsets. Ideas are endless. It's no wonder Claude Monet's paintings changed to light and bright warm pastel hues in his summer versions of haystacks. And Seurat epitomized summer in his paintings Sunday Afternoon and Bathers at Asnières at La Grand Jatte, showing sunlight and shade on the sprawling grass on the bank of the river while people sunbathed and relaxed.

As inspiration fills the season, I too want to reflect what summer brings. This summer I have been working on more landscapes, florals and gardens, capturing the warm light. It is so nice to be able to take the studio outdoors and paint plein air. The season is busy, with no lack of subject matter, so whether you enjoy gallery-hopping or workshops and demonstrations, there are lots of events on the go for these next few summer months.
